Ranking & Reviewing: My Foundations

Welcome back to my site, guys! Today’s post is a rank of the 5 foundations I rotate between, in which I’ll also review price, formula, if I’d repurchase again etc. So, let’s begin!

5. Rimmel London’s Matte BB Cream in the shade Light (least favourite)

First up is the Rimmel London Stay Matte BB Cream. It comes in a 1 fl. oz (or 30mL) tube and retails for about $9 (CAN). It claims that it’s a 9-in-1 skin perfecting super makeup with a matte finish. It’s supposed to:

• minimize appearance of pores;
• even skin tone;
• mattify
• control shine all day;
• smoothes and soothes
• conceals dark circles
• helps prevent blemishes
• gives all day coverage

The formula is great. It’s a little liquid-y but it does give between a medium to high coverage for the face, and it does stay matte. For an entire day? No. I do get pretty oily in my T-zone, so within about 4-5 hours, the middle of my forehead and chin look a little shiny. However, I just can’t wear this foundation on its own. It has given me breakouts, around my nose, mouth and chin area. It took me about a month to figure out what was causing my sudden increase in the amounts of zits I had. I do still like to mix this foundation with my other ones to help give an overall matte finish, but since I can’t wear it by itself, I don’t get as much use out of it.

The tube itself sucks. I always find that when I unwind the cap, there’s extra liquid/foundation already coming out even before I’ve squeezed any on to the back of my hand. And the “light” shade is still a little too dark for me.

I would not repurchase this product.

4. Hard Candy’s Just Face It in the shade Light

Next up is the Hard Candy Just Face It featherweight formula in the shade Light. It comes in a 1.10 fl. oz (or 35.1mL) bottle with pump, and retails for $7. The product claims that it’s a one step foundation as it is a primer, concealer, foundation and powder all in one.

This foundation used to work for me, but now I’ve noticed that I can almost see the foundation as it settles into my pores in my face. It doesn’t usually go on smooth and it does not last the entire day. Again, I usually end up mixing this foundation with another one for a better application.

I would not repurchase this product.

3. Clinique Superbalanced foundation in the shade 27 Alabaster.

My only high end foundation is Clinique’s Superbalanced makeup in the shade number 27 Alabaster. It comes in a 1 fl. oz (or 30mL) bottle and retails for $29 at Sephora.

I bought this a couple years ago when I was still in university and I was prone to breakouts. I wanted something that wasn’t too pricey (from Sephora at least), had good coverage and dealt with oil control. The sales associate recommended this one.

I love this foundation, I just don’t use it as often because it’s a little expensive for me to repurchase on a whim. It gives great coverage (medium to high) and I find that it has a good overall finish. It lasts for about 5 hrs before I start to get oily in the T-zone. I usually end up wearing this on nights I go out to the bar dancing with friends because I do feel it gives me extra coverage versus my drugstore foundations. It also has a good smell to it.

I would repurchase again in the future.

2. Maybelline’s Dream Fresh BB Cream in the shade Light Sheer Tint

My second favourite foundation to use is Maybelline’s Dream Fresh BB Cream. It comes in a 1 fl. oz (or 30mL) tube and retails for $9. It’s an 8-in-1 BB cream that claims:

• SPF 30 helps prevent sunburn;
• helps blur the look of imperfections;
• creates a natural looking glow;
• skin looks smoother;
• compliments skin tone;
• hydrates all day;
• feels fresh;
• and oil free.

I love this BB Cream! I tend to wear it on days when I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup, and it gives a light to kind of medium coverage, but again, I don’t tend to mind if that’s the look I’m going for. It’s very lightweight and matches my skin tone well. I have another BB cream by Garnier that I didn’t include in this list (I only use it in the summer because it’s too tinted), and I find that I reach for the Maybelline one a lot more often because I can wear it for every season.

I will definitely repurchase in the future.

1. L’Oreal’s True Match Lumi in the shade n1-2. (favourite foundation)

This foundation is my favourite foundation to use. It comes in a 1 fl. oz (or 30mL) tube and retails for about $15. It is a little on the pricier side for drugstore foundations, but I just love this foundation. It gives a medium to high coverage look, and I like that it matches my skin tone well. In the summer, I tan slightly, and am able to pull off a slightly darker shade (w1-2, I think).

I like that it’s a pump bottle; it’s my favourite way of using foundation, and I’ve come to realize I only need about 2 pumps on my hand instead of 3 (I’ve been going through this bottle a little quickly). Again, it lasts for about 4-5 hrs before I get oily in my T-zone, but I don’t get as oily as I have in the past with other foundations (Maybelline Fit Me for example).

I will definitely repurchase in the future!
