Liquid Lipstick Collection: Review and Swatches!

Hi everyone! After a long hiatus, I really want to get back into posting at least a couple times a month here and thought it would be great to start off with a product that I absolutely love – liquid lipsticks!

At first I was very skeptical trying out this product. My lips tend to get very dry, very quickly wearing matte lipsticks but I decided to purchase a few. The longevity of the product is what won me over and now I have 11 liquid lipsticks in my collection.

Nighttime Skin Care Routine

IMG_2609

When getting ready to settle in for the night (either by sleeping or playing on my computer before bed), I like to change into comfy pjs and put my hair up in a messy bun so that it’s away from my face.

Next, I use a makeup wipe to remove all the makeup from my face. I’m currently using Covergirl’s Clean makeup wipes but I honestly just buy whatever is the cheapest usually. If I wear a dark lipstick or one that’s hard to take off I use my Maybelline Superaway lip colour remover. It’s like a clear gloss and you put a little on your lips, move it around and then wipe it off with some tissue and voila! all the colour is gone. I got this tube from a friend who’s placement (2 years ago) was at a fashion magazine and she got some free samples.

After all that is done, I look like this! And look at that new pimple on my chin! It literally popped up within the past couple days!

I usually use my Clean & Clear advantage oil absorbing cream cleanser (top), but I thought I would try out a new one which I picked up today. It’s the Clean & Clear continuous control acne cleanser that has 5% benzyl peroxide medication in it (and peroxide helps to dry out zits). So I just wash my hands first with soap, and then wet my face with water before applying a small amount of product all over my face. I let it sit for about 30 seconds before washing it off with warm water and patting my face dry.

Ahhhhh, so much more refreshed!

I use these two products when I get breakouts. The white tube is a prescribed lotion that I apply to my pimples (and I used to use it a lot more frequently a couple years ago when my acne was much worse). The blue tube is a spot treatment sample that my friend received from Sephora.

Finally, I use these two products right before I go to sleep (which is usually at least an hour after I’ve used my prescription cream). The top is my Neutrogena moisturizer for combination skin, and then I apply my favourite lip balm to hydrate my lips overnight. My all-time favourite is the Nivea lip balm.

Hope you enjoyed this post! I’m hoping to get an outfits of the week post up by Sunday. šŸ™‚

Products I’ve Been Loving Lately: Go-To Favourites

Hello! Today I have a new “favourites” post which mostly consists of products that I almost always end up reaching for with a few new products thrown in as well.

TheĀ L’Oreal Magic Lumi PrimerĀ is a new addition to my makeup collection, but it’s proven to live up to its hype! I like the soft sheen/glow it gives me and it really adds to the fact that L’Oreal is a great makeup line! A little of this product goes a long way!

I’ve also been loving theĀ L’Oreal Studio Secrets Matte Primer. At first I was a little weary of how much product was in the jar because I hit pan early, but I’m still using it after about a month and half. I like that it helps to mattify my foundation, especially on long shifts at work. I’m actually surprised by how much I prefer this primer now to the others that I’ve tried (including Tarte and e.l.f.)!

My every day blush that I reach for isĀ Hard Candy’s Fox in a Box – Skinny Dipping. This is a combination bronzer/blush package, however the bronzer is a little glittery and tends to come off more as orange so I don’t use it. But the blush is an orange/coral colour and I’m constantly reaching for it. It’s nice to use in the spring and summer when coral colours are on point.

I’ve been using theĀ Maybelline Made for MochaĀ eyeshadow to fill in my brows with lately. I had hit pan on the taupe colour from the Lorac pro palette and wanted to try to savour any of that eyeshadow left so I needed to find another brown shade quickly. I picked this up about a month ago, and I think it looks great on. It doesn’t make my eyebrows look wonky or out-there so I think I will continue to use this product.

The last three products I’ve been loving and using a lot lately are the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk, theĀ Maybelline Gel EyelinerĀ andĀ Revlon’s Lash Potion in Black.

I’ve been wearing some bold eye looks often and usingĀ MilkĀ has helped for the eyeshadows to appear brighter and stop with creasing. It’s a fave for sure in my collection!

I’m rocking the winged eyeliner recently too, and I’ve had the gel eyeliner for quite some time but usually only wear it a couple times a month. But I’ve been using it a lot lately and since I don’t have a dedicated eyeliner application brush, I like using the brush that comes with it. For how long I’ve used eyeliner, I’m still not that good at making symmetrical wings on each eye though….Ā hmmm.

Lastly, I still love my Wet N Wild mascara, but I have been changing it up recently and selecting theĀ Lash PotionĀ to wear. It’s supposed to help grow the lashes I think (not sure if that part works – me thinks not!) but it gives my eyelashes the boosts it needs for a day’s work!

Products I’m Loving: What Happens in Vegas Eyeshadow Quad

I bought the L’Oreal Brazen Bolds eyeshadow quad in the colour What Happens in Vegas about a week and a half ago, and thought I would do a little review on it.

For starters, I’ve never used L’Oreal eyeshadows (or at least I don’t believe I’ve had) and Shoppers was having a reduced price sale, so I was able to pick up the quad for about $7 (which is a steal in Canada). I chose the What Happens in Vegas quad because I like the neutral tones of the colours, and the peach stood out to me.

When I first used it, I actually didn’t like it all that much. I just liked the peach colour which has great colour payoff, and is more of a peachy-orange tone. The shimmery brown colour is disappointing. It’s streaky and chalky, and I prefer using other brown colours I have to that colour.

At first glance, the shimmery colour below the peach shadow looks like a white/cream colour but it actually leans more towards a golden yellow colour. Safe to say, not good for highlighting under the brow, but works well in the inner tear duct.

The colour I was most surprised to find myself liking is the mustard colour. It’s less shimmery and more mattifying than the other three colours and works great as a transition colour. I tend to wear a neutral/brown eye most days and have been reaching for this colour to put in my crease and help to transition the other colours better.

Overall, I would rate this quad a 3.5/5. The brown shadow is a little disappointing, but the other three colours work great. For the price they usually sell at, I’m not sure if I would repurchase again, but for $7, it’s a pretty good steal.

Products I’m Loving Lately: Beauty

Here is a short list of the current makeup products I have been loving and reaching for lately!

NYC’sĀ High Definition Voluminizing Mascara – This is my new favourite drugstore mascara, and that’s saying a lot since I own about five currently. This mascara delivers on the volume! It lifts my lashes, and when I first tried it on I was amazed. The wand is a skinnier wand (which I prefer) so I’m able to maneuver the bristles to all of my lashes so they are all voluminized. Biggest plus for this product? I paid under $4 for it!

Aveeno’sĀ Clear Complexion BB with SPF 30 – I bought this BB cream last year, and it was the first BB cream I tried out. I like that it’s a tinted BB cream because I only wear it during the summer when I’m tanned/burned so it evens out my skin tone. It’s a very light coverage, which I didn’t like too much last year, but since I’ve had less breakouts this year, I’ve enjoyed wearing it more. The smell is quite nice too; it’s a little perfume-y but not overpowering.

TheĀ Naked 3 PaletteĀ – This was a purchase I contemplated over for a while. I don’t own either of the first two palettes as I already own enough neutral/brown shades. It’s quite expensive here in Canada (about $60), but I had a leftover Sephora gift card and it was also my birthday so I decided to treat myself. At first, I didn’t like the palette. Some of the colours have some fallout or don’t have the best pigmentation, but after watching a few tutorials on YouTube, I found myself reaching for the palette almost everyday. It has a couple matte shadows that are nice to blend with, and the taupe-like shades towards the right are some of my favourites to use for a smokey eye.

Just a few of the shades. From L-R: Mauve, Garnet and Deep Purple.

TheĀ Lorac Pro PaletteĀ – I received this as a gift for Christmas and I was super excited to try it out because I had been wanting it for ages but it was always sold out on the Sephora website. The colour payoff with the eye shadows is amazing. I think they’re the best quality eye shadows I own. I’m actually sad that I’ve started to hit pan on a couple of the shades because I’m not even sure if I can find good enough dupes for them. If you’re looking for a new palette or are contemplating between this and any of the Naked palettes, I would choose this one.

Wet N Wild’sĀ Megalast Lip Colour – These are my new favourite finds. Above are just four of the six shades I own, and I’m definitely plan on getting more! I found these randomly searching the makeup aisles in Walmart a couple months ago for about $2.85 each – a steal! These are great quality and great colour payoff! They are described as a semi-matte finish and I find them very moisturizing on the lips. The line has a variety of shades to choose from. But the best thing is that they are perfect dupes for high-end lipsticks like MAC. I have received some compliments wearing these lipsticks, and most of them are shocked to hear that they are from the brand Wet N Wild!
